Local Non-Profit Offers Resources for Women in Work and in Life
XENIA, OHIO—May 6, 2005. The Women’s Resource Collaborative (WRC) officially opened its doors to the community by hosting an Open House at its downtown Xenia offices on Thursday. Its purpose: to provide career resources to women in Greene and Montgomery Counties who are thinking about starting a career, exploring new career options, or starting a business.
Board members, advisors and staff were on hand to provide tours of the offices and classroom and share their passion for strengthening the economic status of our women and the social fabric of our community.
“WRC began as an idea by volunteers who know how vital it is for women to be able to define and create their careers in the context of a balanced life,” said Catherine Springer, executive director of the Women’s Resource Collaborative. “We are committed to providing a place and a resource that allows women to connect with other women, learn, teach, laugh, network, grow, dream, talk, and build the future of the greater Miami Valley.”
The WRC fills a distinct void for women who have been outplaced, are re-entering the job force, or transitioning to a new career. As a collaborative, its unique working model enables women to exchange skills and services; create teams for combined service offerings; and facilitate mentoring, leadership, and volunteerism. Initial training programs and services center around Career Resources and Business Start-up Resources.
WRC is a non-profit organization founded in 2004. It is currently a component of Greene County Community Foundation (Greene CCF), a 501 (c) (3) organization.
“The WRC fits perfectly into our goal of economic development in the county. As the group helps foster woman-owned businesses as well as facilitate new careers and career transitions, it benefits all kinds of individuals and the region as a whole. That means building new futures, one woman at a time,” said Ed Marrinan, executive director of the Greene CCF.
